Making a mosaic requires little more than patience, a eye for design and the ability to draw an outline. Indeed, you do not even need to be able to draw - the beautiful materials do most of the work. Just a few simple principles to learn which makes the process easier and more fun.

Courses take place twice a month running 10am to 4pm at Anne’s home in Saffron Walden, Essex, in a comfortable and sunny south facing kitchen overlooking the garden. The workshops are run by Anne Cardwell and Gill Howe, two professional mosaic artists (and neighbours!), with small groups of not more than ten, the age range being age 13 and upwards.
You can do either a ONE day course - or book TWO days and qualify for a discount

I loved the excellent balance between good instruction and just letting us get on with it... excellent facilities with a homely atmosphere and plenty of choice in materials to use. This was my second time (this time I brought a couple of friends along, who were also impressed) and surely not my last.....

What a great experience!! The enthusiasm Anne and Gill have for their craft and their willingness to pass that knowledge on to others inspired me to go for a quite difficult first piece, which after a day was only partly finished and had to be taken away. They provided me with enough materials to finish the job, and even helped me via e-mail when I was having a few problems- the completed mosaic now hangs on the wall at home. I returned this year to work on another mosaic with them and to get advice on how to render a more 3 D effect, and happily spent the afternoon working away-they have such a range of materials to work with, it was a pleasure to grub around and select bits that would enhance my work. Anne and Gill are passionate about their craft and it shows. Their own work is very original and the range of mosaic tiles they provide, sourced from all over the world, is inspiring too. I loved their selection of 1950ʼs junk shop saucers, which under their skilled guidance (and a hammer!) soon became a treasured garden ornament. Thank you girls! Helen R. SW
